J Taylor-Jones (they/them) is a filmmaker based in Brighton, UK.
Interested in avant-garde and experimental film, they have gained experience both as a documentarian on Channel 4 commissioned works and as an independent filmmaker, having written, directed and produced projects that have been screened across the globe and nominated for numerous awards.J is committed to portraying the beauty and terror of queer life, through the abstraction of committed realism in an effort to explore the complex subjectivity of being alive in modern society.

A non-linear collection of moments captured over the course of the summer of 2021 by a filmmaker reflecting on their newfound understanding of life following multiple national lockdowns and a spell of poor mental health.One Summer on Earth was directed, photographed, produced and edited by J, and is comprised of selections from five hours worth of DSLR footage and diary entries recorded over the summer of 2021. the film has screened across the globe and has gained acclaim for its style, innovation and soundtrack by Ruby James.
Baggage

An old man returns to London with a suitcase of old belongings, intending to donate them to old friends. In the process, his life becomes entwined with the lives of several young Londoners, sending everyone, young and old, on a journey of reconciliation and self-acceptance.Produced in conjunction with the national youth film academy's 'setready' scheme, Baggage was created by a team of young filmmakers who were placed together, eventually producing this film.
Dead Body

A non-binary individual is trapped, fearful of something trying to break in. As they try to protect themself, their chances of escaping a monster with a familiar face diminish fast.Based on J's experiences with Gender dysphoria, Dead Body is a reckoning with the terrifying power of self-image and marks the first production under J's production company, Burning Closets Films.The film is set to enter the festival circuit in 2024.
